Background
The “Green Evolution: Pathways to Food System Transformation”, project jointly implemented by Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) (lead partner), Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources (ANSAB) (knowledge partner) and Himalayan Permaculture Centre (HPC), with funding support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is implemented in five selected rural/urban municipalities of Karnali province: two in Surkhet, two in Dailekh and one in Jumla.
The project goal is to strengthen local agroecological food systems through improved policy frameworks, operational structures, and multistakeholder cooperation at local, regional and national levels; and aims to contribute to robust local food systems that safeguard people’s right to safe and healthy food, promote food sovereignty for local communities, and build up resilience to climate change.
ANSAB contributes to these project objectives through policy and institutional integration at macro levels (Karnali province and National scales). It achieves this by documenting related knowledges, collaborating and engaging with stakeholders for identifying gaps, challenges and opportunities, and addressing them through organizing dialogues, advocacy and public awareness events.
To support this work, ANSAB is looking for an Intern. This position will engage student in agroecology and food system research, helping them to identify gaps, challenges and opportunities while contributing to their academic growth and the broader mission of agri-food system transformation of the Green Evolution project.
POSITION: INTERN
Duty station: Kathmandu with frequent field visit
Duration: 6 months

Major roles and responsibilities:
The Intern will work with the ANSAB’s agriculture department, and be responsible for the following responsibilities:
- Review literatures, collect data and information, and document knowledge and evidence on agroecological practices and local food systems, focusing on agro-chemicals, ecological seeds and inputs use as well as their impacts on agriculture, human health and associated ecological, economic and social costs.
- Review policies and regulatory frameworks to identify gaps and barriers (including market) to strengthening agroecology, and safe and healthy food systems.
- Develop awareness raising materials, including short films for social media, posters, flyers and write blogs articles motivating producers towards ecological agriculture and consumers for safe and healthy foods.
- Work in the project sites (in collaboration with LIBIRD and HPC) and document data, knowledge and best practices in ecological agricultures.
- Assist in organizing food system dialogues and awareness raising events at province and national levels.
Qualifications and competencies:
- Master’s degree in agriculture, environmental studies, mass communication and journalism or a related field.
- Proficient in using data processing, analysis tools and software.
- Flexible and adaptable to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Nepali language.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritize work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Proficient in using information technologies and computer applications, particularly in MS Office Packages.
