Terms of Reference for GENDER EQUALITY AND SOCIAL INCLUSION (GESI) OFFICER

Background

Established in 1992, ANSAB is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to biodiversity conservation and livelihood improvement in Nepal. It places community empowerment and economic incentives at the heart of its approach and generates knowledge and results through applied research and studies to implement innovative solutions.

ANSAB has been implementing a number of programs and is committed to ensure that its policies, institutional practices, and interventions are equitable, inclusive, and transformative. To achieve this, ANSAB has been systematically mainstreaming Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) throughout its organizational systems and project cycle− from project design and implementation to monitoring, learning, and policy engagement. To support this, ANSAB invites applications from a qualified GESI Officer.

Scope of Work

The GESI Officer will support ANSAB in (i) ensuring GESI integration into organizational  policies, strategies and knowledge products; (ii) mainstreaming GESI principles across programs, and project cycles; (iii) promoting the institutionalization of equitable, inclusive, and gender-transformative approaches throughout the organization; and (iv) strengthening staff and partner capacities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Institutional Integration of GESI 
  • Review, update and support to operationalize ANSAB’s GESI Strategy aligned with contemporary national and international GESI policies, frameworks and best practices.
  • Review organizational policies, technical reports, publications, communication materials, and knowledge products, and provide recommendations to strengthen the integration of GESI perspectives.
  • Assess organization’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) system and recommend improvements  for  developing  GESI sensitive indicators, tools and disaggregated data collection processes.
  1. Mainstreaming GESI in Programs and Projects
  • Develop practical guidelines and tools for integrating GESI throughout the project cycle, including project design, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
  • Provide technical support  to program and project teams to mainstream GESI across ongoing and new initiatives.
  • Develop and pilot a step-by-step methodological framework or toolkit for implementing GESI-inclusive interventions, documenting lessons learned and recommendations for scaling up.
  1. Capacity Building and Technical Support
  • Develop GESI training modules, manuals, and resource materials relevant to ANSAB’s thematic areas and programs.
  • Design and facilitate orientation sessions, training workshops, coaching, and mentoring for ANSAB staff, partners, community institutions, and other stakeholders based on their respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide ongoing technical advice and coaching to project teams to strengthen GESI-responsive planning and implementation.
  1. Knowledge Management and MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) System 
  • Document good practices, success stories, lessons learned, and case studies demonstrating the outcomes and impacts of GESI integration.
  • Support the preparation of knowledge products, communication materials, and reports that effectively highlight gender and social inclusion outcomes.
  • Contribute to organizational learning by promoting evidence-based approaches to GESI mainstreaming.
  • Review and strengthen the organizational MEAL framework by integrating GESI-sensitive indicators, monitoring tools, reporting formats, and disaggregated data systems to support evidence-based decision-making, adaptive management, and organizational learning.

Qualification and skills

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences (e.g., Gender Studies, Sociology), Natural Sciences (e.g., Forestry, Agriculture), or a related field.
  • At least five years of professional work experience in GESI mainstreaming, preferably in natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, or livelihood-related programs. 
  • Strong understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, intersectionality, and gender transformative approaches in the context of Nepal. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Nepali.
  • Strong facilitation, training, report-writing, and analytical skills.

Duration

One year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of organizational resources.
