It is a highly prized edible fungus with a distinctive fruiting body. The fruiting body characterized by a sponge-like, honeycombed cap that is fully attached to the stem. The cap is typically pale brown, cream, yellow, or tan, with a series of pits and ridges. The stem is white to pale yellow, stout, and hollow. The whole fruiting body is hollow and has a unique, earthy, nutty flavor. Flowering and fruiting in May-June (Jestha-Asar).
