Madan Koirala worked at Tribhuvan University for almost 4 decades and retired from the position of Professor of Environmental Science, on 2018. His area of expertise is Mountain Environment, Biodiversity, Climate Change and Upstream downstream linkages. He received his PhD degree in Environmental Science, from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. MPS Food and Nutrition Planning, UPLB the Philippines and MSc Zoology, from TU. He has produced four PhDs, two are ongoing, and supervised above 50 Master’s Level Dissertations. He has authored 6 Books; Book Chapters 8; Journal articles above20; periodicals and popular articles; reviewers of 10 + journals (both national and international) and Editor in Chief of Journal of Environmental Science Nepal. As academic executive, he has served from campus level to the Dean of the Institute of Science & Technology, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has worked with the Government as Director of Nutritious Food Project and Scientific Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
Prof. Koirala has participated in UNFCCC COP delegate representing Nepal. Participation in Climate Change related regional and global meetings as National Expert in WB, ADB, UNDP and other UN forums. Team Leader and Member of various expert groups on Higher Education, Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity: NAST, UGC, HUC, ICIMOD, IUCN, NTNC. He is one of the expert group members of the GoN organized Sagarmatha Sanbad. He served as the team leader for “Scope of Science & Technology Education: Expanding the Access in Nepal,” under UGC/N. He has done PROJECTs with HUC: Between TU (Nepal), LU (PR, China); TU (Nepal), RUB (Bhutan), and TERI (India). In Erasmus +: Higher Education International Capacity building (SPHERA. Nine participating institutions from Spain (Applicant Universidad De Oviedo), United Kingdom, Portugal, Cyprus, Uzbekistan and Nepal. He remained as Expert Member, Climate Change Council, Government of Nepal, Member Academic Council, Tribhuvan University; Chairman, Environmental Management Subject Committee, Pokhara University; Academic &Technical Committee Member of South Asian University, New Delhi, representing Nepal; Subjective Working Group Member in proposed Madan Bhandari University of Science & Technology.
