Ban Lasun is a perennial, bulbous herb that grows up to 75 cm tall. Its underground bulb consists of 2–3 fleshy, white scales resembling a garlic clove, small and slightly brown in color, with a strong and bitter taste. The leaves are linear to lanceolate, often with tendril-like tips; lower leaves opposite, upper leaves whorled. It produces solitary, nodding, yellowish- green or yellowish-brown flowers with distinctive dark purple spots in a checkerboard pattern. Flowering in May-June (Jestha-Asar).
